Care instructions: General

Cacti and other succulents should be placed in a sunny to very bright position and no further than 1 metre from the window. It should be borne in mind that curtains, thermal glass, blinds, trees or other objects in front of the window - as well as balconies above the window - reduce the amount of sunlight considerably and even one metre away from the glass may be too much. Locations directly above the heating are unfavourable. An outdoor location is also possible from mid-May to the end of September. But beware, even succulents can get sunburnt if they are placed directly in the midday sun on a very sunny, hot day. Give the plants a few days to get used to direct sunlight.

 

In winter, most cacti and other succulents should be given a rest period. They can then be kept in a cool place (bedroom, stairwell, cellar) in dry soil. The more light available to them, the better. Use cactus soil and cactus fertiliser according to the instructions. From spring to summer, you can fertilise with cactus fertiliser or succulent fertiliser, depending on the species. Start in March without fertiliser by over-watering, then water. Fertiliser should only be applied at the next watering. An adequate supply of plant food is crucial for health and important for flowering the following year. Diseases often occur as a result of malnutrition.

 

Water every 7 sunny days during spring and summer. Avoid waterlogging at all costs. Watering can be stopped completely during the winter if the plant is kept in a cool place. Large plants do not need watering during the winter, even if they are kept in a warm place.
